CBO offers "objective, nonpartisan, and timely analyses to aid in economic & budgetary decisions on the wide array of programs covered by the federal budget." National Council of State Legislatures
Access to NCLS reports and portal to state legislative sites. Posts news about hot state issues. Much of the site is limited to legislative staff. Click on the issues area to find goals of the legislature, in addition to particular state aims

American Enterprise Institute
A private, nonpartisan, not-for-profit institution dedicated to research and education on issues of government, politics, economics and social welfare. AEI research is conducted through seven primary research divisions: Economics, Foreign and Defense Policy, Politics and Public Opinion, Education, Health, Energy and the Environment and Society and Culture
Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management
The mission of the APPAM is improving public policy and management by fostering excellence in research, analysis, and education.
Non-profit policy group founded in 1916. Research areas include: economy, governance, foreign policy, urban policy and global development.
Center for American Progress
Politically progressive policy group. Develops policy ideas, and critiques policy that "stems from conservative values."
Center for Budget Priorities
Focuses on fiscal and tax policy and how such policies effect low and moderate income individuals and families.
Center for Public Integrity
Founded in 1990, this nonpartisan center focuses on ethics and government accountability. Its full reports are useful. For those interested in state issues, link to its 50 States Project, a state-by-state analysis of lawmaker's conflict of interest.
Progressive think tank founded in 1919. Information on economic inequality, education, healthcare and more.
Institute for Policy Research
Focus on poverty, race, and inequality. Children/Families, Policing, Urban Policy/Communites; Nonprofits also are research objectives of the Institute. These topics are discussed in working papers, newsletter, policy briefs and books in this well-organized website.
Institute for Research on Poverty
Univ of Wisconsin-Madison site supports interdisciplinary studies which address the causes and consequence of inequality and poverty in the US. It is one of the Area Poverty Research Centers along with Uof Mich, Uof Kentucky and the West Coast APRC's.
Living New Deal: Resources
UC- Berkeley and a California NGO have teamed up to offer educational and multimedia resources relating to the programs of the New Deal and their continuing present-day effects.
National Center for Children in Poverty
Columbia Univ. Site's purpose is to share publications, but it is also a source for data tools and news. Much of the information is localized to state information. Resources can be searched by topic, year or project. Contains basic fact sheets on low income children, homelessness, and children in the social welfare system
Pew Research Center
Non partisan "fact tank," according to their website. Provides "information on issues, attitudes, and trends shaping America and the world." Does not take positions on policy issues.
"PolicyLink is a national research and action institute advancing economic and social equity by Lifting Up What Works. Lifting Up What Works is our way of focusing attention on how people are working successfully to use local, state, and federal policy to create conditions that benefit everyone, especially people in low-income communities and communities of color." Publications, tools and other resources are available on the website.

Research and policy institute focused on economic security, health disparities and human rights with regard to women of color.
