Review Your Work

Use the Thesaurus

1. Double-click the word you want to replace
2. Click on the Review tab within the Microsoft Office 2007 Ribbon
3. Click on the Thesaurus option within the Review tab
4. A side-bar will appear with a search box.
5. Type the word for which you’d like a synonym returned into the search box, and hit enter on your keyboard.
6. You’ll receive a list of similar words. When you find the word you’d like to insert, right-click on the word, and a menu of options will appear.
7. Left click on the word insert to insert the chosen synonym.

Spell Check

Check spelling and grammar
1.  On the Review tab, click the Spelling and Grammar button
2.  In the Spelling and Grammar dialog box, click the appropriate buttons
to correct the errors Word finds or to add words to the custom dictionary or AutoCorrect list
3.  Click OK when Word reaches the end of the Spelling and Grammar

Select a word
1.  Double-click the word

Select a sentence
1. Click anywhere in the sentence while holding down the Ctrl key

Select a paragraph
1.  Double-click the selection area to the left of the paragraph

2.  Triple-click anywhere in the paragraph

Delete text
1. Select the text and click Delete key or Backspace key

Undo or redo a command
1.  Keyboard shortcut: Press Z while holding down the CTRL key for: CTRL Z

Copy or cut and paste text
1.  Select the text
2.  On the Home tab of the Ribbon, look for the pictures of the scissors (cut text); two small pieces of [identical] paper (copy text); and a clipboard (paste text)
        a. To copy: select the text and navigate to the icon of the two sheets of paper and left-click once
        b. Left-click in the area within the Word 2007 document workspace that you would like to paste the text and left-click once on the clip-board icon.

All About Fonts

Change to a different font
1.  Select the text you want to change
2.  Select the Home tab and, click the down arrow to the right of the Font
box and click the name of the font you want to apply. (*Tip: By default, the font box will list “Calibri” as the font sytle.)

Change the font size 
1.  Select the text you want to change
2.  On the Home tab, click the down arrow to the right of the Font
Size box and click the font size that you want to apply

Apply text effects
1.  Select the text to which you want to add an effect
2.  On the Home tab, click the diagonal arrow to the right of the Font title to expand the Font options.
3.  Select the check box of the effect you want to apply and click OK



Change character spacing of text
1.  Select the text whose spacing you want to change
2.  On the Home tab, click the down arrow to the right of the word Font
3.  The Font dialog box will pop open for you
3.  Click the Character Spacing tab
4.  Click the down arrow to the right of the Spacing box and click
5.  Click the up or down arrow to the right of the box to specify how
       much the spacing should be expanded or condensed and then click
       OK
    
Show/Hide Formatting Marks
1.  Navigate to the Microsoft Office button in the upper left hand corner of your screen
2.  Select Word Options (bottom button on the right side of the expanded Office button menu)
3.  Select Display from the menu bar on the left side of the screen in the Word Options dialog box.
4.  Navigate to the heading, Always Show These Formatting Marks on the Screen and select or de-select the formatting options. To globally show/hide formatting for all, check the box for “Show all formatting marks.”


      

Change the color of text
1.  Select the text whose color you want to change
2.  Select the Home tab, click the down arrow to the right of the Font Color button and then on the color palette, click the box for the color you want 

Highlight text with a color

1. Select the text you want to highlight
2.  Within the Home tab, find the down arrow to the right of the Highlight button and then click the box for the color you want



Clear All Text Formatting
1.  Select one instance of the formatted text
2.  In the Home Tab navigate to the Font group
3.  Left click on the icon with the “Aa” followed by the eraser pic (to the right of font size)
      
Add an effect to your text
1.  Select the text you want to modify
2.  Within the Home Tab, expand the Font Dialog box (within the Font group)
3.  Within the Font Dialog box, navigate to the heading for “Effects” and add a checkmark to each effect you’d like to apply to your text
4.  Click OK
